WYOMING OFFICIAL LOGO BUCKING HORSE FABRIC

We just received a little more information on the Wyoming Bucking horse fabric that is soon to be available and I wanted to pass it on. First of all, the horse image is approximately 6 x 6 inches. There are no fabric samples available to look at, but these will be the same high-quality batiks that Hoffman always produces. There will be coordinating batiks available. Shipments are scheduled to arrive here at the store late June or early July. There are no restrictions on the use of the fabric, so it can be used to make products to sell. The cost at Lickety Stitch will be $12.20 per yard. Although 6 colors are shown on the website, they will print only those for which they get enough orders for a minimum print run. That is why we are taking pre-orders, so we can judge what to order and hopefully all the colors will be printed.   Colors that are printed will be available in limited quantities - meaning when supplies are gone, there likely will not be a second printing. I predict that it will sell out very quickly, so we are offering customers a chance to pre-order to reserve the yardage they want. Sochi Olympics Quilt-Theme Story

Sochi games’ press release: ”The Olympic patchwork quilt, developed by Bosco’s creative department and given to the Sochi 2014 Organising Committee, will be the official Look of Russia’s first Winter Games.

Chenille Technique

What do you do with all the beautiful panels that are now available? This is a question that we often ask ourselves and our customers often ask us also.  We have found that Chenille is a great technique to give texture and depth to fabrics, especially panels.  The whole project can be chenilled or just part of it - like the Teddy Bear and Sheep pillows. It is a simple technique, made even easier with a few cool tools.  Two or more layers of the panel or fabric are sewn in rows every 1/2 on the bias.  Using a slash cutter tool, the top layer or layers are cut between the rows of stitching. When the fabric is washed and dried, it fluffs up making a soft textured look, which can be sewn into the project.

 

 

Arm Knitting

I had never even heard of arm knitting until a customer came into the store the other day with a beautiful scarf, which I admired. She told me her daughter had "arm knitted" it for her.  Curious, I had to go onto YouTube and investigate for myself what "arm knitting" consisted of.  After watching a few videos my thought was "I can do this!" One evening after everyone else in the household had gone to bed (I actually didn't want to have anyone see me in case I ended up in a tangled mess!) I pulled a skein of Red Heart Boutique Shashay yarn from my stash and tried it out.  Within 20 minutes I had a scarf knitted - but I thought I could do better so I raveled it out and tried again.  I am not exaggerating when I say you can knit this scarf in 20 minutes! I have ordered several colors of this yarn for the shop, and when it comes in we will plan a demo/class to show how easy it is to make this scarf.

Vintage Cowgirl Quilt Kits

The Vintage Cowgirl Panel Quilt is just about finished - then we will be preparing the pattern and cutting kits. I think it turned out  lovely!  What do you think?  Approximately 54x66.

Quilt + Pillow = Quillow

Quillows have been around a long time, but they are enjoying a resurgence in popularity here at Lickety Stitch since we introduced them in Minky.  A snuggly blanket and pillow all in one - easy and quick to make - a perfect gift for anyone at any age.  What more could you ask?

We made this one in a wildlife print on one side and a coordinating warm brown on the other side.  Just think of all the possibilities - Camo for the hunter, school colors for the team members (perfect for bus trips - these wash well) - juvenile prints for the kiddos, sophisticated colors for your girlfriends.  A quillow requires no quilting and only basic sewing skills.  A walking foot/even feed foot is helpful when working with Minky. Electric Quilt 7 - My Newest Challenge!

We purchased the Electric Quilt 7 (EQ7) program recently and I have been working with it this weekend for the first time. What an amazing program! It is user friendly and awesome in what it can produce.   I watched all the tutorial videos and worked through several of the lessons that are included to introduce the features.

We do quite a bit of quilt designing at the shop, coming up with original designs for kits and for customers.  The challenge when creating original quilts for kits is then to write the pattern so it is complete, accurate, and easy to understand. I am hoping with EQ7 we can more efficiently come up with original designs and also write better instructions. 

We have gotten in several military-theme fabrics recently, and here is a quilt we came up with to showcase some of them.
